To give you a sense of the scale of the explosions, the tanks are 60 feet long and 10 feet tall. The fire and smoke sometimes extend 300 feet into the air and burn for a day or more!  First responders evacuate nearby residents and keep people well away from the fires, but they do not try to put them out.
