Native Americans are protecting their watershed from an oil pipeline.

Davis residents are invited to gather for a brief rally at 12pm on Tuesday September 13th at the old City Hall, 226 F street to show support for the Standing Rock Sioux and tribal allies who are currently resisting the Dakota Access Pipeline in order to protect their sacred watersheds. The rally is being organised by members of Yolano Climate Action network and is part of a nationwide day of solidarity actions to call on President Obama to stop the Dakota Access Pipeline. Thank you for listening to my commentary this evening.  Here is the written version of my comments regarding the Final Environmental Impact Report and the Valero Crude–by-Rail Project.

The True Cost of Oil – Who Pays?

I wish to address the section of the staff report entitled “Significant and Unavoidable Impacts (Impacts without Mitigation Measures)” beginning on page 26.   The identified impacts are summarized for informational purposes only, as the staff report summarizes in several paragraphs why under federal preemption no mitigations of any kind can be offered for any of the impacts. Yesterday, with our friends at Californians Against Fracking, I helped deliver over 100,000 comments from Californians across the state demanding that Governor Brown and the Division of Oil, Gas, and Geothermal Resources (DOGGR) ban fracking in California now. (more…)
